Commercial access control systems in Austin, Texas
AK Technologies designs, installs, integrates, and services commercial access control across Austin and Central Texas. One door or a multi-site campus, new construction or takeover of a system someone else installed.
What we install
Access control decides who gets into your building, which openings they reach, and when. We build systems that a facilities team can actually run day to day, not ones that need us on site for every badge change.
- Credential options. Card, mobile, and biometric credentials, for employees, vendors, and contractors.
- Door monitoring. Real-time status on forced entries and doors left ajar.
- System integration. Access control tied into elevators, alarms, video, and intrusion so the systems corroborate each other.
- Remote management. Manage rights, track activity, and pull reports from anywhere.
Platforms we support
Platform-agnostic on purpose. We install what fits the building and the budget, not what carries the best margin this quarter.
- Gallagher. High-security environments: corrections, utilities, education.
- LenelS2 (Honeywell). OnGuard and NetBox, from basic access control through advanced security analytics.
- Open Options. DNA Fusion, wide integration support for education, healthcare, and government.
- Brivo. Cloud-based with mobile credentialing, strong for property management and multi-tenant.
- Avigilon Alta (Openpath). Mobile-first keyless entry with remote management.
- Feenics. Keep, cloud-hosted, scales across sites without on-premises complexity.
- Continental Access. CA4K Enterprise, commercial offices through educational institutions.
- NAPCO. Integrated access control and intrusion on one platform.
How projects reach us
New construction and Division 28
We work as the low-voltage subcontractor on commercial builds, coordinating with the general contractor, the electrician, and the door hardware supplier so openings are actually ready when the panels go in.
Retrofit and takeover
Existing building, existing system. We assess what is serviceable, reuse what we can, and replace what is genuinely at end of life. Taking over a system another integrator installed is routine work, not an exception.
Government and public sector
Eligible entities buy under Texas DIR contract DIR-CPO-6165 with a quote and a purchase order instead of a separate bid. School districts in particular use this to fit security work inside a summer construction window. How districts buy without a separate bid.
Service and maintenance
Scheduled preventative maintenance, priority repair response, system health monitoring, and documentation for compliance and audits.
Common questions
How much does commercial access control cost in Austin?
Cost depends on the number of openings, the credential type, whether the platform is cloud-hosted or on-premises, and how much existing door hardware and cabling can be reused. A retrofit that reuses serviceable hardware costs materially less per door than new construction. AK Technologies quotes per project after a site walk rather than publishing a per-door figure that would not survive contact with a real building.
Can you take over an access control system another company installed?
Yes. Takeover work is routine. AK Technologies supports Gallagher, LenelS2, Open Options, Brivo, Avigilon Alta, Feenics, Continental Access, and NAPCO platforms, so an existing system can often be adopted and serviced rather than ripped out. Where a platform is genuinely at end of life, we say so.
Do you install access control for government and school district facilities?
Yes. AK Technologies holds Texas DIR cooperative contract DIR-CPO-6165, so eligible state agencies, local governments, K-12 districts, higher education institutions, and public hospitals can purchase access control with a quote and a purchase order rather than running their own competitive solicitation.
Is AK Technologies licensed to install access control in Texas?
Yes. AK Technologies operates under Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security License B10540201, and has been installing low-voltage and security systems in Austin since 1992.
